Asbestos Removal

Did You Know that by law before any type of residential remodeling project can begin, an asbestos test must be performed by a state-licensed asbestos inspector on any building materials that might be disturbed during the remodel. An asbestos inspection is required before any type of remodel can begin. About half of the work done by Asbestos Abatement contractors comes from home owner remodel projects and we help with asbestos removal on all remodels.

Asbestos was used in many different construction aspects. These days, asbestos is not used, but if your home or business is a bit older, you could be at risk for asbestos exposure. We offer asbestos inspections and removal if asbestos is found inside your home or business. We will not allow anyone into the area until we are sure that all asbestos has been removed and that the area is safe for you. Asbestos is dangerous and not only can cause respiratory problems, but can cause death.

What you should know about Asbestos!

A. Asbestos is known to cause cancer and has been used in numerous building materials for over 100 years. Asbestos is most commonly found in homes built between 1910-1989. Vinyl tiles, linoleum, sheet, vinyl, and glues all run the risk of containing asbestos.

B. Contrary to popular belief, asbestos has yet to be completely “banned” from use in building materials. Even today, asbestos can be found in sheetrock joint compounds, flooring products, and adhesives.

C. Because asbestos is still being used laws were enacted and require contractors to test for asbestos. Common products that must be tested before performing work include vinyl tiles, sheet vinyl, linoleum, and drywall. If these products are damaged during the construction or installation of new floors asbestos fibers will be released and contaminate the home.

D. Common Asbestos laws state “Contractors are required to have an asbestos inspection performed by a certified asbestos inspector.” Tests performed by unlicensed individuals do not meet state requirements and can be punished with hefty fines.

E. Sadly, it has been common practice to install carpet, tack strip, and other flooring products over potentially asbestos-containing materials. As awareness has increased regarding cancer-causing effects of these types of activities laws have been enacted to protect consumers. Reputable contractors should NEVER perform work without first testing for asbestos to ensure the safety of homeowners and employees.

Asbestos is a hazardous material that can cause serious health problems if not handled properly. As a result, it is crucial to hire a professional asbestos abatement company to ensure the safety of everyone involved in the project.
